I believe it's both. It's both an imaginary homeland, the starting point of inspiration; and a real Vietnam, a destination that allows me to reconnect with my own identity.
I believe that the experience of diaspora is a constant interaction between memory, reality, and fiction. The clash of these forces is often intense (we can never fully recover what has been lost), but it is also essential, as it allows us to recognize the diversity of an identity."
