Artist Spotlight: Amanda Seibæk

Artists' Collecting Society, October 28, 2026

ACS Studio Prize 2024 finalist Amanda Seibæk talks to the Artists’ Collecting Society in their ‘Artist Spotlight’ series about her work, her creative practice and her current solo exhibition, A BALLAD at the SLQS Gallery.

"My recent project A BALLAD will be on show at SLQS Gallery from 3 October to 7 November 2026. The show presents my biggest painting to date “The fall” and will also be the first time I show ceramics and bronze.  The idea began with the story of a baleen whale whose song is pitched at a frequency that its peers cannot hear. This became a point of departure for thinking about loneliness, communication, human projection and the increasingly disrupted sonic environment of the ocean. I translated research into whale frequencies, spectrograms, shipping routes and ocean noise into paintings, ceramics and bronze sculptures. The project has allowed me to think about how something as intangible as sound, disappearance or ecological loss might become palpable through different materials." - Amanda Seibæk
