Aphrodite’s Pinch references the birth of Aphrodite, goddess of love, sexual pleasure andfertility, born from the white salty sea foam produced by the sperm bursting out of thecastrated genitals of Uranus. The oyster alludes to the sea Aphrodite was born from andthe shape reminisces of the female genitalia. Painted in matt black, it points to Freud’sstatement on the sexual life of adult women as a dark continent for psychology! The fauxskin offers a bodily tactility to the piece while the trace of glittery salt left on the blackpaint suggests an impression of wetness. Sea or pleasure?...
