SLQS Gallery presents No Place Like Home III as part of the Backyard Biennal East organised by The Whitechapel Gallery. Curated by Hoa Dung Clerget and KV Duong, this group exhibition features works by Hiền Hoàng, Alvin Lương, Nguyễn Thủy Tiên, Moi Tran and the curators.
The third part in this series of exhibitions centres around an interior garden as a place of exchange. No Place Like Home is a collective exploration of home, focusing on the Vietnamese diasporic house as an intimate, cultural, and political space. This project builds on Part 1 (Canning Gallery, 2022), where 150 white plastic stools were stacked to create a third-space street gathering environment, and Part 2 (Museum of the Home, 2023), where the white-walled museum space was transformed into an intimate dining room.
In addition to a traditional exhibition, the project centres on workshops, gatherings, and discussions, inviting the public and local communities to reflect and share experiences. The curators, members of the Vietnamese artistic community, utilise the project as a platform for dialogue, making the exhibition a space for collective reflection and engagement for the wider East and Southeast Asian community.
The exhibition is supported by SLQS Gallery, Whitechapel Gallery, the Vietnam Art Collection (VAC), the Circles of Art and Pippy Houldsworth Gallery.
